Red-footed tortoise

You will find here all the information to take care of it and to better know this species.

How to take care of it?

Temperature: Hot Zone: 28-35 degrees. Cold Zone: 25 degrees.

Night: 20 degrees

Need UVB light: Yes.

Humidity: Very high. 80-90% humidity.

Diet: Mainly leafy plants, flowers, fruits from time to time and 5% of its diet must be composed of proteins (insects).

You can also give pellet food for terrestrial turtles (ideally for forest turtles), this will provide everything your turtle needs.

Character and habit: Very curious and rather agile. She loves digging, burying herself and remodeling her terrarium to her liking by moving certain decorations.

She doesn’t like to be manipulated, but she loves being fed by hand and some people like to have it scratched.

Diurnal.

Average adult size: Around 50 cm.

Life expectancy: Around 50 years and above.

Substrate: Coconut fiber, peat, etc. A substrate that retains moisture and allows digging and burying.

Habitat type: Humid tropical. The height does not matter. You need to offer her decorations that serve as hiding places (objects or plants). If you use real plants, make sure they are completely edible, because she will taste them all!

Terrarium: Large terrarium. The area on the ground must be calculated to be 10 times larger than the size of the turtle. Therefore, a large space must be provided for an adult turtle. Provide a bowl of water large enough to immerse herself completely, but not too deep, because she is a bad swimmer.

It can be taken outside in the summer (at least 22 degrees Celsius) by providing an 'enclosure' with a sunny spot and a shaded area to regulate its temperature.

Cohabitation: Alone or in a group. Provide enough space!

Getting informed is the best way to take care of our animals.
