The Orange-Throated Skink


The Eutropis multifasciata, often called the Orange-throated Skink or Multiple-banded Skink, is an active and fascinating tropical lizard native to Southeast Asia. Highly appreciated for its energetic behavior, robustness and beautiful colors, this skink is an excellent species for lovers of dynamic and natural reptiles.


Always on the move during the day, it constantly explores its environment, actively hunts its prey and regularly takes advantage of hot areas to thermoregulate. Its lively and curious behavior makes it a particularly interesting reptile to observe.


Species description


The Eutropis multifasciata has an elongated body covered with smooth and glossy scales giving it an almost metallic appearance. Its coloration varies according to age, sex and geographical origin, but several individuals have brown, copper, orange or gold tones.


Adult males often develop more intense colours, particularly in the throat and flanks.

Recommended layout


The terrarium should contain:

Several hiding places

Branches and roots

Stable rocks

Dense foliage

Wetlands and drier areas

Deep substrate for digging


Bioactive terrariums work particularly well with this species.



Temperature


Like all reptiles, Eutropis multifasciata depends on external heat to regulate its body temperature.


Recommended temperatures:


Point chaud30 at 40°C

Cool Zone 24 to 27°C

Night: 18 to 24°C


A good basking area is essential to maintain a healthy metabolism.


The Orange-throated Skink appreciates relatively high humidity.


Ideal humidity: 60 to 80%


Adequate humidity helps a lot during molting.
